Our Story

Joey and Chelsea’s love story began on January 1, 2020. Funny enough, both of them were within arm’s length of one another at a party in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2018 (there is video proof!), but did not meet each other until a year and a half later. According to Joey, he saw Chelsea in a clip posted by a mutual friend on New Years Day 2020 and decided to slide in her DMs. To his surprise, she responded, and the two ended up speaking over the next several days. It didn’t take long for Joey and Chelsea to both realize that they found someone special. They continued to get to know one another over the next year, and after Joey moved to Houston in early 2021, he finally made the drive to Dallas in March 2021 to visit Chelsea in person. While driving to meet Joey for the first time, Chelsea ended up driving over a curb in a parking lot. It was at that moment Joey knew that he found his person. The two became inseparable and decided to make their relationship official on June 17, 2021. 

Over the next two years, the couple racked up miles traveling from Dallas to Houston, and vice versa. They attended several weddings, concerts, and sports events, and made unforgettable trips across the country and the world. They also spent much of their time sharing their mutual love of movies (especially GLADIATOR!), ancient European history, trashy reality television, and being homebodies. Most importantly, the couple has invested the time in truly learning one another and growing closer to God, which is what has grounded them during each phase of their relationship.

Joey moved to Dallas in September 2023, and quickly decided that Rome, Italy, the site of GLADIATOR, was the perfect place to propose to the love of his life. And on June 14, 2024, with “Only One for Me” by Brian McKnight playing in the background, Joey got down on one knee and made the proposal of a lifetime in front of the Roman Colosseum—and Chelsea said yes!
